About The Project

This is the second conversion we have completed on this street in Newport Pagnell. The two houses were both very similar, but with this conversion, the client only wanted one large room, as opposed to the previous client on the same street who was after two bedrooms.

The loft on this house was perfect for a conversion and would give plenty of light and space. Consequently, we were able to provide the client with a substantially sized and long bedroom, as well as providing space for a luxury en suite and wardrobe area.

What We Did

We built a Dormer at the rear of the roof that was approximately nine meters wide and finished with the highly sought after iron grey Hardie plank cladding. We then proceeded to install three black UPVC windows to match the existing windows. We were asked by the client to change the design to allow for a large window so that they could benefit from the fantastic views of the countryside behind their house. We also installed five MK06 Top hung Velux Roof Windows to give plenty of light in the bedroom, bathroom and stairway.

We were then able to fit the stairs over the existing ones which helped to make the stairs look part of the original house. The clients mentioned at the beginning of the build that they might like to upgrade the stairs for something a little different after taking a look at other completed works of ours. They decided they really liked the oak styles, and so we upgraded the doors in the loft to oak timber. We then also changed the new loft stairs to oak and looked to make the existing stairs appear like solid oak as well.

After pricing up and deciding how the client wanted the stairs, we decided on solid oak newels for the loft stairs and solid spindles and handrails. We also cladded the existing stair newels in oak so they would all match perfectly. I’m really happy with how these stairs look and work. They are beautiful and give a very stylish effect to the house. The oak doors in the loft help it all flow beautifully.

The en suite is a nice and spacious, offering plenty of light thanks to the two large Velux windows, and alongside the stylish tiles and finish of the bathroom, it looks flawless.

We installed a vanity unit toilet, wall hung basin, a 900mm x 1000mm shower and a lovely chrome towel rail. We also built a shelved access door that could be unscrewed to give access to the mini loft area behind. This also doubled up as a useful storage shelf in the room.

Result

The clients were over the moon with the finished result, and it has certainly given them the space they requested when we initially conducted our survey and talked through all the ideas and possibilities. If you are interested in converting your loft, then get in touch with us today.
