About The Project
This project in Hitchin was completed for a lovely couple who wanted to create additional space in their home without the need to move. Having already obtained architectural plans, they were keen to transform their unused loft into a comfortable and stylish master suite.
During our initial review of the drawings, we identified that lifting the ridge line slightly would allow us to achieve the head height needed to make the new space feel bright, open and comfortable. Similar design solutions are often used on our loft conversions in Watford to maximise usable living space and improve overall room proportions.
What We Did
To maximise the available space, we constructed a large L-shaped dormer at the rear of the property, creating a generous floor area for both the bedroom and the ensuite.
As part of the project, the front roof was completely re-roofed in new slate, while the new dormer structure was also finished in slate to complement the existing property and maintain a clean, cohesive appearance.
Inside the loft, we created a spacious master bedroom and a stunning ensuite bathroom. The ensuite features a freestanding bath, a large walk-in shower, and a modern wall-hung sink and toilet. LED feature lighting was also incorporated to give the space a stylish and contemporary feel.
Two Velux roof windows were installed on the front elevation, flooding the bedroom with natural light, while a Juliet balcony at the rear provides additional light and a fantastic view over the garden.
The new staircase was installed directly above the existing stairs, allowing easy access to the loft while ensuring the clients didn’t lose any valuable space on the floors below.
As with many of our loft conversions in Biggleswade, the aim of this project was to create a practical and luxurious living space while maintaining the character and appearance of the original property.
